This fall’s highlights include the 2004 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Anna in the Tropics, the premiere of a play about the artist, Salvador Dali, as well as performances from the Mexico Now! Festival:

en el Trópico by Nilo Cruz. Set in
1929 Tampa at a Cuban American cigar factory against the backdrop
of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play merges

Thalia Spanish Theatre
Almost
a Goddess/Casi Una Diosa by Jaime Salom. The surrealistic
world of Spanish artist Salvador Dali comes to life in a play that explores his

P.S. 122 14 UnNatural Acts by Roberto Sifuentes and Lián
Sifuentes. Part of the Mexico Now! Festival. Explores a political landscape ruled
by
fear and religious zealotry, in a culture where civil liberties are put in
jeopardy for the sake of security. The result is a performance that uses
satire, humor and spectacle to peel away our protective layers of
comfort and reveal society’s fears, desires and obsessions. Nov. 4-14.

The ninth play in playwright August Wilson’s ten play cycle chronicling
the African American experience through each decade of the 1900s. Set in 1904,
it becomes the first play chronologically in Wilson’s odyssey through the
20th century, which includes his acclaimed play, Fences.
Gem of the Ocean begins on the eve of the 287th birthday of Aunt Ester (played by Phylicia Rashad). Citizen Barlow, a man in spiritual turmoil, arrives at Aunt Ester’s house in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and is soon set off on a spiritual journey to find the mythic City of Bones, leading him to startling discoveries and setting him on a course of duty and redemption.
