TDF Theatre Access Consortium Equipment Grants

Grants for accessibility equipment in audio description or open captioning
Thanks to limited funding available through June 30, 2017, TDF is accepting letters of inquiry from not-for-profit theatres in New York City  that are seeking grants to purchase their own accessibility equipment for audio description and/or open captioning.  These grants are intended to help theatres increase their audiences of people with hearing and vision loss and create sustainable accessibility programs. Deadline for submission is June 1st 2017 at 6pm.

To apply for a TDF Theatre Access Consortium Accessibility Equipment Grant please submit a letter of inquiry that includes the following:

  • Examples of previous and ongoing accessibility initiatives at your theatre
  • Type of audio description and/or open captioning equipment your theatre wishes to purchase and a breakdown of costs involved
  • Detailed schedule of performances that will utilize this equipment for audience members with disabilities and an outline of your first season such as “we would like to offer five audio described performances each year” or “every third Sunday of each production’s run will be open captioned.”
  • Evidence of community interest and outreach efforts such as letters of support from attendees at your theatre or organizations you have contacted that indicate need for audio description and/or open captioning services at your performances
  • Additionally, a member of your organization must attend the April 24th TDF Access for NYC Theatre Symposium on Accessibility to be eligible for this grant
