This existential dark comedy by Israel Horowitz (The Indian Wants the Bronx) focuses on a group of people waiting on line for some unnamed event. They don’t know what they’re on line for, but they’re all determined to be at the front of it. Lying, scheming, cheating, and wrestling ensue as Horowitz examines the now-timeless theme of America’s constant desire (and struggle) to be in first place.
Line is New York's longest-running Off-Off-Broadway play, having taken hold of the 13th Street Repertory Theater in 1974 and running continuously now for 40 years. It's also kicked off many a career, including that of Richard Dreyfuss, Chazz Palminteri and Christopher Meloni. Obie Award-winning Horvitz is not only the most-produced American playwright in French theater history, but he's also the father of Beastie Boy Adam Horvitz.
