A masterpiece of the baroque, Catone in Utica brings one of the great stories of ancient Rome to life in an exquisite exploration of operatic drama. Opera Lafayette’s semi-staged production is based on the critically acclaimed Summer 2015 production at The Glimmerglass Festival and is directed by the Emmy-nominated and NAACP Theatre Award winning Tazewell Thompson.
Surrounded by the armies of Julius Caesar, a defiant Cato faces the end of his conflict with Rome’s newly anointed Dictator. Politics and passion collide in the rugged North African city of Utica as Cato’s daughter is drawn to the conquering Caesar.
