The ensemble features more than 150 musicians in a program of traditional Japanese folk songs and American classics. The kocarina is a fluted instrument constructed with wood, producing warm tones comparable to birdsong. The instruments were made from the wood of trees felled for the construction of the Kengo Kuma National Stadium for the 2020 Japan Olympics and the Lone Miracle Pine that survived the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
The concert includes folk singer Kanemi Yaguchi and the Ai Chorus directed by Aiko Kawamoto, and proceeds from this concert will support The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
