A lifelong friend of Marcelo Lehninger, Nelson Freire is a master virtuoso whose ease as a musical storyteller conceals one of the most formidable piano techniques of our time. The Brazilian pianist also joins the Grand Rapids Symphony for Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Momoprecoce, a fantasy for piano and orchestra, which evokes the world of children during the famous Carnival of Brazil season.
The superb Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus, as well as our fabulous percussion section, will be heard in Villa-Lobos’s Choros No. 10, subtitled "Rasga o Coração” or (“It Tears Open the Heart”).
