Part of Music of Conscience Series - music created in response to historical events, political unrest, and societal turmoil.
John Corigliano’s piercing, personal dedication to loved ones lost and the many impacted by the widespread AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. Jaap van Zweden conducts and is joined by David Fray (who has “an instinctive Mozartean affinity” — BBC) for Mozart’s fierce, introspective Piano Concerto No. 24.
Panels from the Nobel Peace Prize–nominated AIDS Memorial Quilt — inscribed with the names of AIDS victims by audience members at the 1992 Philharmonic performances of John Corigliano’s First Symphony — will be on display in the lobby of David Geffen Hall during these performances.
These performances are part of the official celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, under the auspices of the Stonewall 50 Consortium.
