Meet New York Deaf Theatre, the longest-running company of its kind in New York City and the third oldest Deaf troupe in the U.S. Founded in 1979, NYDT provides an artistic home for actors, creators and designers who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing where they can see their own lives and experiences reflected onstage. NYDT's shows are accessible to both audiences who can hear and those who are Deaf or hard of hearing thanks to a variety of tools and techniques. For example, the troupe's current production, a revival of Jordan Harrison's Maple & Vine, is presented using a combination of American Sign Language, spoken English and English captioning. At press time, discount tickets to Maple & Vine were available to TDF members.
