Red Bull Theater: Cymbeline, Refinished
Streaming until Sunday, May 24 for $30.
NYC’s Red Bull Theater, which revitalizes undersung classics, presented an in-person reading of George Bernard Shaw’s rewrite of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline earlier this week and you can watch a recording through the weekend. The Irish playwright puts a feminist spin on the Bard’s rarely performed problem play, and the cast includes Stereophonic Tony nominee Tom Pecinka and The Black List‘s Amir Arison. PBS Great Performances: Shakespeare in the Park: Hamlet
Streaming until Sunday, May 31 for FREE.
In honor of The Public Theater’s FREE Shakespeare in the Park kicking off its season this week, we invite you to revisit this production past. Slave Play Tony nominee Ato Blankson-Wood stars as Hamlet who’s hell-bent on avenging his father’s murder. Directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon and recorded live in 2023, this is a modern-day reimagining of the tragedy set in Georgia post-COVID. I quite admired it, especially Lorraine Toussaint as Hamlet’s mother and the riveting John Douglas Thompson as his uncle-turned-stepfather. The ghost scene will truly haunt you!

Recorded live onstage at The Met last fall, this lavish mounting of Strauss’ romantic comedy Arabella stars soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen as the title character, a headstrong noblewoman who falls for bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny’s count.
