“Only in the Movies!” Director Bill Condon’s film adaptation of Kander and Ebb’s musical Kiss of the Spider Woman begins streaming on Hulu this weekend. Diego Luna and breakout star Tonatiuh play cellmates in an Argentine prison who find solace in imagining themselves in a classic Hollywood movie musical featuring Jennifer Lopez as the glamorous title character. The glorious numbers include “She’s a Woman,” “Never You” and the title tune.

Before she becomes a movie star, revisit her Tony-winning turn as the hilarious Lutiebelle Gussie Mae Jenkins in the 2023 revival of Ossie Davis’ Purlie Victorious. Subtitled A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, this politically charged comedy centers on a Black preacher (Hamilton Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr.) who returns to his rural Georgia home hell-bent on winning back his church and freeing his people from an exploitative overseer (Jay O. Sanders). But he can’t do it without Lutiebelle’s help! Witty, wise and timelier than ever.

Soho Rep: Watch Me Walk
Streaming Saturday, February 28 until Saturday, March 7 for $25.
Playwright-performer Anne Gridley’s Watch Me Walk was a hit at the Under the Radar festival last month. Now producer Soho Rep is teaming up with the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc. to stream her searing autobiographical show to at-home audiences. The two-time Obie winner has a rare and incurable disease and while she hasn’t let it hold her back, it definitely impacts her life and how she’s perceived in our ableist world. With the help of two talented sidekicks, Gridley shares her humorous and hard-hitting disability insights in this genre-defying stage memoir.
