Even though in-person theatre and dance are back in full swing, in the name of accessibility we’re continuing to round up performances to watch online from the comfort of home. Our curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29, for free or at low cost.

Alley Theatre: The Importance of Being Earnest

Live-streaming Friday, March 27 at 9 p.m.; Saturday March 28 at 3 and 9 p.m.; and Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. ET for $39.

Last week, we told you about two different takes on Oscar Wilde’s comedy of amours you can watch online. Well, now there’s a third: Houston’s Alley Theatre is live-streaming The Importance of Being Earnest this weekend courtesy of The League of Live Stream Theater. Captions are available.

Jodi Melnick and Sara Mearns: Superbloom (Dancing Into Choreographic Forms)

Streaming from Sunday, March 29 at noon for $20.

This weekend, two disparate dance world luminaries, postmodern choreographer Jodi Melnick and New York City Ballet star Sara Mearns, present the world premiere of Superbloom (Dancing Into Choreographic Forms) at the 92NY. In this collaboration, they pay homage to the pioneering female choreographers who influenced their work as dance-makers. Beginning on Sunday, a recording will be available to stream online.

PBS Great Performances at the Met: La Bohème

Streaming until Saturday, April 4 for FREE.

Great Performances presents Zeffirelli’s iconic staging of Puccini’s romantic tragedy about love, bromance and art. Juliana Grigoryan and Freddie De Tommaso star as Mimi and Rodolfo in this production, which was recorded live onstage at The Metropolitan Opera earlier this season.

National Theatre at Home: End

Streaming for $10.

The final installment in David Eldridge’s trilogy about midlife, End stars Saskia Reeves (Slow Horses) and Clive Owen (Closer) as a couple whose time is short due to his terminal cancer. Can these longtime lovers share the important things they’ve left unsaid before it’s too late? This is just one of many fantastic National Theatre shows you can stream, so be sure to browse the entire list. Captions are available for all offerings.

Color Theories

Streaming for free to HBO Max subscribers.

After glowing reviews in the US and abroad, Julio Torres‘ sui generis solo comedy comes to HBO Max. Like all his work—the stand-up special My Favorite Shapes, the cult series Los Espookys and Fantasmas, his movie Problemista—this surreal romp is better experienced than described as he shares his rainbow-tinted perspective on the world while searching for a new hue. The unexpected connections he makes between colors, politics, people and pop culture are entertaining and insightful.
