Our curated list spotlights the five best options to stream this weekend, Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, for free or at low cost.
George Street Playhouse: My Lord, What a Night
Streaming Friday, May 15 at 2, Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 and Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m. ET for $39.
Deborah Brevoort’s play is inspired by a true story about a night in 1937 when celebrated opera star Marian Anderson was turned away from a hotel because of her race in Princeton, NJ. Thankfully, the great Albert Einstein opened his door, sparking a lifelong friendship. This intimate look at two icons connecting will be live-streamed this weekend from NJ’s George Street Playhouse courtesy of The League of Live Stream Theater.

PBS Great Performances: Irving Berlin’s Top Hat
Airing on PBS Thirteen on Friday, May 15 at 9 p.m. for FREE. Available to stream until Friday, July 31.
Based on the classic 1935 movie musical and recorded live onstage in London, Irving Berlin’s Top Hat was directed and choreographed by three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall. When Broadway favorite Jerry Travers (Phillip Attmore) arrives in London to open a new show, he falls for a model (Amara Okereke) and promises to leave the single life behind. But it’s a rocky romance with fabulous Berlin songs, including “Cheek to Cheek,” “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

Live From 54 Below: From Corinne’s Heart

Composed by Broadway actor Charles Mandracchia and based on his short film, From Corinne’s Heart is inspired by the true story of a woman who wanted to become a famous figure skater until MS derailed her dream. The New Group: The Adding Machine
Streaming until Sunday, May 17 for $40.
Recorded live Off Broadway earlier this week courtesy of The League of Live Stream Theater, The New Group’s unconventional revival of Elmer Rice’s 1923 Expressionist classic The Adding Machine features a starry cast of four led by Daphne Rubin-Vega in drag as an oblivious worker bee named Mr. Zero, who reacts violently when he learns he’s being replaced by a machine. Jennifer Tilly is Zero’s nagging wife, Sarita Choudhury is his work crush and the versatile Michael Cyril Creighton plays all the other roles. Scott Elliott directs.

MCC Theater: Miscast26
Streaming until Tuesday, May 19 for FREE.
For more than a quarter century, MCC Theater has hosted Miscast, a buzzy gala featuring stage stars performing numbers from roles they would never play. In years past, videos of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Raúl Esparza singing “A Boy Like That” from West Side Story and Tina Fey and Tituss Burgess one-upping each other in “You’re Nothing Without Me” from City of Angels have gone viral. While the in-person event took place last month at Hammerstein Ballroom, you can watch a recording of the concert online for FREE. This year’s stellar lineup includes The Lost Boys‘ Ali Louis Bourzgui, Schmigadoon!‘s Alex Brightman and Sara Chase, Lea Michele and Nicholas Christopher from Chess, Maybe Happy Ending Tony winner Darren Criss, Tony winner Jane Krakowski, Ragtime‘s Caissie Levy, Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles, Titaníque diva Marla Mindelle, Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, Two Strangers‘ Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts, Tramell Tillman from Severance, Beaches’ Jessica Vosk and many more.
