Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672)
German polychoral psalm settings
With period Instruments

Between 1609 and 1612 a young Heinrich Schütz studied with the great master Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice. In 1619 he published his first great collection of German language polychoral psalm settings, the Psalmen Davids.

Dresden, a center of culture and bastion of Lutheranism, enthusiastically embraced this monumental collection of German language sacred music and the ducal court at Dresden, with its extensive chapel of singers and players, was the ideal performance venue for his sumptuous works. Join us as we return to the German lands to take another look at the genius of Germany’s first great baroque composer
