The Dover String Quartet - considered one of the most remarkably talented young string quartets ever to emerge at such a young age, the Dover String Quartet was the Grand Prize-winner of the 2010 Fischoff Competition. Formed at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2008, when its members were just 19 years old, the Quartet draws from the musical lineage of both the Vermeer and Guarneri Quartets, but brings a youthful enthusiasm and musical conviction to the repertoire that is truly its own. Since their 2013 – 14 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet Residency at Caramoor, the Dover Quartet have graduated from a young quartet into one of the most sought-after ensembles.
Hear “expert musicianship, razor-sharp ensemble, deep musical feeling, and a palpable commitment to communication” (Chicago Tribune) when the Dover Quartet performs music by Britten and Brahms. Emanuel Ax then joins the ensemble to showcase his “fleet fingerwork” (The Guardian) in the challenging solo part of Schumann’s Piano Quintet, an exuberant and inventive work from its opening measures to its thrilling conclusion.
Program
BRITTEN String Quartet No. 1 in D MajorB
RAHMS String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat Major
SCHUMANN Piano Quintet in E-flat Major
Part of: Chamber Sessions II
