An exquisite musical memoir
Set in Vienna in 1938 and in London during the Blitz, The Pianist of Willesden Lane tells the true story of Lisa Jura, a young Jewish pianist who is dreaming about her concert debut at Vienna's storied Musikverein concert hall.
Grammy-nominated pianist and storyteller Mona Golabek shares the gripping, biographical tale of her mother’s escape from Vienna in 1938. When the young Jewish piano prodigy finds her dreams threatened by the looming war, she escapes to England on the Kindertransport.
Ms. Golabek tells an incomparable true story while interweaving the music of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and even a little Gershwin in this elegant and beautiful production.

The real expressive power of this story lies in its soundtrack, expertly incorporated by adapter and director Hershey Felder, who is something of a master of this genre. Sound designer Erik Carstensen has perfectly engineered the moments that require an orchestral backing, making sure the canned music works seamlessly with Golabek's live performance. Lisa's story is a particularly romantic one, equal parts tragedy and triumph. It's an immigrant's story of perseverance over adversity that will leave you wanting more.
Don't miss this one.
