Bolshoi not only means big and grand, it also describes the company’s style—adventurous performances charged with drama and emotion. With three full-length ballets along and one opera-in-concert, this is New York’s first opportunity, ever, to experience the combined forces of the Bolshoi Ballet, Opera, Orchestra, and Chorus together in one two-week engagement.
Swan Lake July 15 - 20
The love of Prince Siegfried and his Swan Queen, Odette, is imperiled by sinister, supernatural forces in one of ballet’s most famous stories. Choreographer Yuri Grigorovich’s retelling and Tchaikovsky’s lyrical music underline the magic and drama of this timeless work.
Don Quixote July 22 - 23
The exploits of Cervantes’s legendary hero in search of his perfect love are seen in a critically acclaimed staging by Alexei Fadeyechev. Featuring dazzling costumes re-created from historic sketches, this is classic Bolshoi, teeming with life and set to a cadence of castanets and tambourines.
Spartacus July 25 - 27
Spartacus is Bolshoi to the core. A hymn to pulse-raising male dancing created specifically to showcase the company, this ballet with its shackled slaves confronting the might of ancient Rome boldly depicts the triumph of the human spirit. Yuri Grigorovich’s choreography, set to Khachaturian’s lush score, is painted in bold, broad strokes and has long been a favorite of ballet fans around the world.
