In 1909, garment factory workers in New York City stood up for their rights in the uprising of the 20,000. Many received better pay and shorter hours, but no one received better safety conditions. In 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory caught fire. Because of a lack of safety precautions, this resulted in over 100 preventable deaths.
Uprising explores the journey of these men and women, while looking at the labor movement as a whole. Intertwined with live scenes that take place around the uprising of the 20,000 and the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, are video interviews with historians and union members that look at the history of labor, its state today, and its future.
