Playing @
Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey
36 Madison Ave, Madison, NJ 07940
This rarely-produced play about one of history’s most well-known monarchs and the first two of his six wives depicts a young Henry obsessed with producing an heir to carry on his legacy. This epic pageant play focuses on the tug-of-wars between church and state and husband and wife, culminating in the birth of England’s future Queen Elizabeth I, Shakespeare’s great patron and Henry’s fierce and very female heir.

I have ventur’d,
Like little wanton boys that swim on bladders,
This many summers in a sea of glory,
But far beyond my depth.
