"Innovative” doesn’t begin to cover this collective, team-based, raucously fun adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.
The production takes place over every inch of the bar; audience members are incorporated into the performance, put in groups and encouraged to dance and play bar games. (Are you familiar with flip cup? If not, don’t worry: the actors will teach you.) Yet throughout, the experience is true to the language, the meaning, the laughter, and the immortal power of Shakespeare’s tragic masterpiece. As “two households, both alike in dignity…from ancient grudge break to new mutiny,” you’ll have to choose a side and jump right in.
