Ghost Trio features three innovative musicians:  sean-nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, uilleann piper Ivan Goff and fiddler Cleek Schrey on Hardanger. The trio explores the ancient and transporting modal sounds of traditional Irish music:  in the drones of dirges and laments, the spiritual songs of antique provenance and the joyful pairing of the pipes and the fiddle.

All three musicians have delved into experimental musical worlds far from their points of origin: Ó Lionáird from the Irish-speaking region of Cork where he was a virtuoso singer as a young child and is considered by The Guardian to be one of the most dramatic voices in contemporary music; Dublin-born Goff, All Ireland champion, playing the pipes in traditional bands; and Virginian, Schrey from old-time American music

  • “The finest sean nós singer to be found anywhere in these islands today.”
