Twenty five years after being banished from Fairyland for marrying a mortal, Iolanthe returns seeking protection for her now grown son who’s half-fairy, half-mortal.  When he falls in love with the ward of the Lord Chancellor, both Fairyland and the Houses of Parliament nearly fall to pieces.

The satire of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Iolanthe is as appropriate now as when it was written, with the House of Lords lampooned as a bastion of the ineffective, privileged and dim-witted. The political party system and other institutions also come in for a dose of satire, including lawyers, the military, the church and even the stage. Throughout, however, the criticism  is couched among such bouncy, amiable absurdities that it is all received as good humor.

The Blue Hill Troupe, the only musical theater group in New York City to donate its net proceeds to charity.
Proceeds from Iolanthe will go to the Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation.
