Malcolm Low’s new work draws upon his experience of growing up gay in a religious black family.

Speakeasy imagines a utopian environment where the challenges of confronting race, homophobia, shame, and loss give way to clarity and candor. Low, alongside performers Mei Yamanaka, Simone Sobers, and Erick Montes, uses text, video, and movement to explore the use and misuse of words in personal and social histories.
