Schooled in jazz and classical music, raised amid old-school R&B and funk at home and the music of the 1990s with his peers, and inspired by the great film composers of recent decades, Kris Bowers is one of the newest and brightest lights on the jazz landscape.
A graduate of Juilliard and a winner of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2011, Bowers has since become a Steinway artist, was named one of twelve Artists to Watch by iTunes, released his acclaimed debut album Heroes + Misfits, which opened to No. 1 on the iTunes jazz charts and won Best New Jazz Album at the 2014 Jazz Japan Awards. Most recently, Bowers was one of 6 composers to participate in the Sundance Film Composers Lab at Skywalker Sound.
Never afraid to step outside of traditional boundaries to create other forms of music, Bowers performed on Watch the Throne, the 2011 collaborative album by hip-hop artists Jay-Z and Kanye West, and has scored a diverse range of documentaries. Join us for a multidisciplinary evening of music and visual in this special presentation.
