Few singers in recent years have generated more buzz and excitement than Eric Owens.
Equally at home in orchestral, recital, and opera, there is seemingly nothing he cannot do, bringing his powerful poise, expansive voice, and acting faculties to stages around the world. To cite a few recent triumphs: Alberich in the Met’s latest Ring Cycle; General Leslie Groves in John Adams’ Doctor Atomic; Stephen Kumalo in Lost in the Stars and the title role in Verdi’s Macbeth, both at Glimmerglass (where he is artist in residence).
His McCarter program will include songs and lieder by Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, and Ravel, as well as O tu Palermo, from Verdi’s I Vespri Siciliani. Mr. Owens will conclude his recital with a group of Broadway selections from Camelot, South Pacific, and Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars.
Eric Owens is currently starring as King Philip II in Opera Philadelphia’s production of “Don Carlo”
