Jonathan Biss, Artist-in-Residence, piano
THURSDAY, AUGUST 4th @ 8 PM
After opening the first of our chamber ensemble performances (Pamela Frank’s June 19 Father’s Day tribute) with a Brahms quartet, we close the last with the composer’s longest chamber work, Piano Quartet in A major. Artist-in-Residence Jonathan Biss brings to the table an incredible group of musicians with whom he shares a personal connection, not least of whom is his mother, the gifted violinist Miriam Fried.
Janácek Sonata for violin and piano
Brahms Piano Quartet in A major, Op. 26
with Miriam Fried, violin
Hsin-Yun Huang, viola
& Marcy Rosen, cello
FRIDAY, AUGUST 5th @ 8 PM
All Beethoven
Artist-in-Residence Jonathan Biss is serious about his Beethoven. “Beethoven’s sonatas have been a constant presence in my life for nearly as long as I have been playing the piano,” he writes. “‘Presence’ is too mild a word, though: ‘force’ comes a bit closer to conveying the space he occupies in my heart and head.”
