“To Life, To Laugh, L’Chaim!” is a choral celebration of the classic Yiddish writer Sholem Aleichem.

Each selection has some connection to him: humorous songs, in keeping with his famous quote, “Lakhn iz gezint, doktoyrim heysn lakhn” (laughing is healthy—doctors prescribe laughter); tributes to the pen name “Sholem Aleichem” (peace unto you); works by Mark Warshawsky, a prolific Yiddish singer-songwriter discovered and promoted by Sholem Aleichem; songs from the musical Shver tsu zayn a yid (It’s Hard Being Jewish), adapted from a Sholem Aleichem play; musical settings of his poems; and songs from a Yiddish adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof.
