When lonely and repressed introvert Frederick Clegg wins a fortune in the lottery, he uses his winnings to purchase a large remote country house.
Fueled by his obsession with a beautiful and privileged art student Miranda Grey, Clegg's behavior soon takes a sinister turn as he abducts Grey, imprisoning her in his cellar amid his butterfly collection. He soon finds reality is far from his fantasy, and a tense sequence of events unfolds leading to a devastating climax.
