Paulina Olowska’s Slavic Goddesses—A Wreath of Ceremonies is a ballet based on Slavic and Pagan traditions.

Often addressing feminism and cultural conventions during the past century in her work, Olowska here revisits the work of visionary artist Zofia Stryjeska - exploring the visionary Polish artist’s notion of ballet as a “wreath of ceremonies,” and designing costumes after her 1918 painting series Bozki slowianskie (Slavic Deities) that was based on Slavic folklore and mythology.

One of the most acclaimed, multifaceted artists in Poland, Stryjeska’s work was systematically discredited after she refused to join the Communist run Union of Polish Artists. Yet, despite this treatment, her paintings and illustrations of folklore were co-opted by the government for mass-produced merchandise, proliferating her designs without consent

An original score by Sergei Tcherepnin will mix cosmic sounds together with traditional Mazurkas, Polkas, and Oberkas, as well as spiritual disco.
