Four years after Osnel Delgado was told that founding an independent dance company in Havana would be un malpaso, or “a misstep,” his sure-footed (and defiantly named) ensemble has been firmly established as the reigning standard-bearer of Cuban contemporary dance.

As the “crown jewel” in the emerging Cuban contemporary dance scene, Malpaso Artistic Director Osnel Delgado has been able to attract both international choreographers and new voices in Cuban choreography.

“Sparklingly present…and remarkably strong,” (The New York Times), Cuba’s Malpaso Dance Company returns to New York with its dazzling, classically trained dancers. The program includes woman with water, an intimate work by Mats EkElemental, a spellbinding dance by Robyn Mineko Williams; and Duo de la Escoba – Revisited, a piece by the company’s own Daileidys Carrazana, featuring live music by Arturo O’Farrill.
