Spline unfolds the exploration of one's physical and psychological boundaries.

MICHIYAYA Dance
discovers the systems in which we create and are created for us to conform to certain parameters. Industrial, biological, and interpersonal systems are challenged through a variety of narratives. Ideas of mental disorders, individuality, and coexistence are investigated. Incorporated into Spline's concept will be the life and physical voice of Co-Artistic Director Mitsuko Verdery's grandfather, Pampa.

Pampa's life experiences, and relationships serve as an inspiration for the work. The word spline is defined as a key fitting into the grooves of a wheel, integrally with the shaft to allow movement of the wheel. The definition of spline is a great impetus for the work as it explains Clarke and Verdery's interest in the source and function of a problem, the physical and psychological boundaries involved in life.
