In a rare New York appearance, superstar Pakistani singer Sanam Marvi comes to BAM for one night only, presenting an evening of South Asian folk and devotional music at its most intensely sublime.
Singing poetic texts in Urdu, Sindhi, and Saraiki, Marvi transforms songs in the ebullient qawwali and other traditions into fierce clarion calls for tolerance and understanding. Four musicians join Marvi onstage as she wields her nimble voice like a sceptre, inducing an ecstasy of belonging for the sake of peace.
