Baroness Blixen, the aging grand dame of literature, returns to NYC with a play about the love for a younger man and the re-awakening of the artist.
The Baroness is based on a true story of the relationship between Karen Blixen and Thorkild Bjørnvig. Full of tension and poetry, the play is inspired by anecdotes, letters and books by and about both Blixen and Bjørnvig.
The Baroness (Om Baronessen) premiered to rave reviews at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen in 2011 and was a Reumert Award nominee for Play of the Year in 2012 (the Danish equivalent of the Tony Award). Playwright Thor Bjørn Krebs has created a provocative interpretation of the relationship between these characters, while questioning and challenging the role and nature of the artist, as well as the relationship between love, sex and the creative spark.
