Upon the death of its patriarch and facing financial ruin, the Hunter family struggles to maintain their social and economic standing. Funds are stolen for dangerous financial schemes, dubious marriages are contemplated, and summer dresses are sold on the cheap. If the fires of adversity prove one's mettle, the various members of this family seem to be made of different stuff.

First performed in 1901, Clyde Fitch’s The Climbers is still a timely tale of grasping, social climbing at all costs.
