Escape to Margaritaville is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more.

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of.

Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar and kick back to the soothing sounds of the kettledrum. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Reviews

  • Jimmy Buffett believers, also known as “Parrotheads,” are going to have a whale of a good time at “Escape to Margaritaville” which opened at the Marquis Theatre on Thursday night. More surprising is that the hitherto uninitiated are going to be highly entertained as well. This is a cleverly crafted production, honestly done within its own convention and fun to watch.
  • This musical that may fit the bill if you’re in the mood for a breezy but dopey diversion. A few pre-theater margaritas may enhance things. It doesn’t take a die-hard fan — aka Parrothead— to know why the “gulf and western” singer-songwriter is so popular. Buffett songs tell character-driven stories in laid-back, amusing and randy fashion.
  • What do you expect from a Jimmy Buffett jukebox musical? The alley outside the Marquis Theatre has been done up as an empty stretch of beach, and that pretty much sums up Escape to Margaritaville, which seems intended to be watched with your feet up and a melting frozen drink in your hand. Along with more than two dozen songs from Buffett’s tropical-burnout catalog, the show offers steel drums, jean shorts, palm trees and dancers dressed as fluffy white clouds. It’s often hokey and sometimes pokey. But I’ll level with you: I had fun.
