Playing @
Stephen Sondheim Theatre
124 West 43rd Street, New York City, NY 10036
A theatrical experience that melds the art of clowning with spectacle visual images and fantasy, culminating in a snowstorm that engulfs the entire audience. This romantically wistful theatrical adventure offers a dreamlike vision that overflows with magical dynamism and humorous antics, set within an absurd and surrealistic world.

SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW
made its American debut in 2004 and became an instant theatrical sensation, breaking the record for highest grossing show in the history of the Union Square Theatre. Now a theatrical classic, Slava's Snowshow pushes the boundaries of family show to its highest standards and has been rewarded with more than twenty international awards, including an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, a Drama Desk Award, and a Tony Award nomination.

“My heart leapt. Snowshow induces waves of giggles and sighs of pleasure.”

Reviews

  • On one level it’s pure, and starkly simple, entertainment, but it also presents a collective vision of human experience that echoes the pathos of great comics or mimes like Charlie Chaplin and Marcel Marceau. ... And while the show mostly avoids obvious spectacle, there are a few authentic “wow” moments.
  • NYT CRITIC'S PICK

The show’s reappearance now, just as impeachment hearings are getting underway, is the kind of serendipity that we might not have known we needed. It offers a respite from our fraught present, a portal into a dreamscape where the only dialogue is nonsense talk... “Snowshow” excels at the sort of giddy physical humor that tickles belly laughter from children. ... But this piece isn’t only for kids, and it’s not all frivolity.
  • He [Slava Polunin] has the scrappy air of a street mime who’s managed to sneak onto the world’s most prestigious stages ... and is adept at feeding audiences from the palm of his hand. ... Being under the age of 12 may help; the production might also pair well with milder psychedelics. But if you can embrace the logic of nonsense and surrender your personal boundaries to the spirit of the season, you may find this blizzard a blast.
