With a penchant for asking open-ended questions, Sasha Waltz keeps the dialogue going, creating work that defies boundaries and revels in complexity.
Contained within weightless aluminum clouds, 14 dancers expand and contract their limits to the thrum and heartbeat of echoing space. The relentlessly exploratory choreographer Sasha Waltz (Continu, 2015 Next Wave) returns to BAM with a staggering feat of collaboration examining the human body’s fraught relationship to structures of power.
Featuring sculptural costumes by Dutch couture revolutionary Iris van Herpen, stark lightscapes by designer Urs Schönebaum, and an industrial, atmospheric score by Soundwalk Collective, Kreatur conjures a hallucinatory existence where power shifts constantly and freedom can only come from within.
