In Coney Island at the turn of the 20th century, Jack Chapman III (Johnny Appleseed’s grandson) sets out to save his family apple orchard by enlisting the help of Nathan Handwerker (founder of Nathan’s Hot Dogs), Warren Lincoln Travis (“The World’s Strongest Man”), and Lina “Hank” Beecher (designer of the first looping roller coaster). Together this diverse group of friends discover the magic of a new kind of music: barbershop harmony.
Four actors play over forty characters in this fast-paced musical comedy. Featuring original barbershop harmony songs and a lush piano score by Ben Bonnema, The Apple Boys is an old-fashioned, new-fangled adventure for everyone that celebrates the American Spirit, approximate historical accuracy, and Aristotle’s age-old truth that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
