big kid pays homage to my childhood, friends and family in Philly.
The work reflects on the relationship I had with my father and most straight, male figures in my life, and the fear that defined me as a child lingering into adulthood. It is a healing for myself and for anyone who feels they maybe grew up too fast and had to become independent sooner than later.
It is also inspired by the kids I know and teach now, and the strength and kindness in them I still struggle with as an adult.
