After a parental dispute separates Princess Maleine and Prince Hjalmar on their wedding night, she refuses marry her father’s second choice for her. The result is a war that decimates her family and kingdom. Only she and her handmaid Aleta survive, and they go in search of Prince Hjalmar, Maleine’s true love. They learn that his evil step mother has arranged a marriage between the Prince and her daughter, Ursula, but when the Prince discovers that Maleine has survived the war, he abandons Ursula and chooses Maleine.
