The Guangzhou Ballet comes to Lincoln Center with a program featuring two ballet productions, Carmina Burana and Goddess of the Luo River.

Winner of 42 international awards and 159 national awards, Guangzhou Ballet is one of the most acclaimed artistic performance organizations in China.

Carmina Burana is the most complete and artistic medieval poem ever known. For centuries, it was buried deep in a monastery south of Munich, Germany, and then made public, shocking the world. The Guangzhou Ballet's contemporary dance version of Carmina Burana is not a classical ballet in the usual sense; it is an exploration of ballet, music and medieval poetry interpreted by Chinese ballet dancers within a unique range, expanding the bridge between different cultures.

Goddess of the Luo River, recomposed by Peter Quanz, is based on a romantic, solemn and stirring violin concerto by composer Du Mingxin and inspired by the folk tale of a young poet who falls in love with a goddess in ancient China.
