While Broadway is reopening in late summer 2021, this show has not announced its restart date.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. Because of the epic nature of the story, it could not fit into the performance time of a traditional single play, and consequently will be told in two parts.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.

As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Reviews

  • "To say that this two-part, nearly six-hour epic ... casts a spell with its fresh takes on beloved characters by J.K. Rowling — and new ones — is a major understatement. Eye-popping enchantment regularly flies off the stage."
  • What is a complete revelation, and was by no means assured, is the sheer scope and integrity of the accomplished storytelling the authors and entire creative team bring to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” ... My wager is that the lucky young ones who see these plays will be hooked on the theater for life. What could be better than that?
  • "In embodying the magical with such seeming spontaneity, “Cursed Child” becomes the new gold standard for fantasy franchise entertainment on Broadway. By contrast, most of the family-courting stage versions of animated films that have ruled the theater district for so long look as stiff and artificial as parades of windup toys."
