Cuba's premier early music group, Ars Longa de la Habana, returns to NYC with a lively repetoire of 18th century music from Cuba, Mexico, and Central America. Five singers and seven musicians explore the lively vocal and instrumental repertoire of the Spanish Empire cathedrals of the Americas, incorporating joyful rhythms across forms and cultures.
Many of their pieces reflect the blending of African slave roots with Spanish influences in the New World — both secular and sacred. Their music is lively and accessible, blurring the lines of performer and listener in an outburst of joy and celebration.
Ars Longa de la Habana “performs with a sharp rhythmic drive…its style often seems on the verge of dance, if not well beyond it.” – The New York Times
