Así se baila en el norte follows the journey of a group of professional Folklórico dance couples in Northern Mexico as they compete for glory in various styles of polka. The show is divided into regional (make-believe) polka competitions with the audience engaging in the voting process – choosing their favorites. The show concludes with a “concurso de polkas,” a grand finale that pits the couples in a winner-take-all dance sequence that brings the show full circle. Mexican Folklórico is more than a style of dance. It is a diverse platform for regional Mexican folklore expressed through ritual dance. With its uplifting rhythms, colors and sounds, Folklórico is among the oldest and most beloved traditions in Mexican culture – surviving centuries of change to remain relevant in modern times.
