Spring at New York City Ballet welcomes three unique Masters at Work programs focused on our founding choreographers. The first, featuring music by German composers, includes the return of Jerome Robbins’ Brandenburg, last seen in 2008 and set to selections from Bach’s ever-popular concertos. World premieres from Canadian choreographer Alysa Pires, who makes her NYCB choreographic debut, and former NYCB Resident Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon join current NYCB Resident Choreographer Justin Peck’s audience favorite sneaker ballet The Times Are Racing for the 2023 Spring Gala and subsequent performances of the 21st Century Choreography II program. Encores of Peck’s newest work, his first full-evening creation, also take the stage this spring. Finally, classical meets contemporary as Balanchine’s one-act adaptation of Swan Lake meets Alexei Ratmansky’s abstract embodiment of Wassily Kandinsky’s watercolors, Pictures at an Exhibition.
