Love is in the air as American Ballet Theatre returns to the Metropolitan Opera House stage for a spectacular 2023 Summer Season. A season full of unforgettable stories and popular favorites that are sure to leave you dazzled:

Like Water for Chocolate
June 22-July 1
Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon’s new full-length ballet brings the magical realism of this famous modern Mexican novel and award-winning film to American Ballet Theatre. Journey into Laura Esquivel’s acclaimed and captivating family saga where the central character’s emotions spill out through cooking to influence everyone around her in startling and dramatic ways. The ballet’s heroine, Tita, is deeply in love with but forbidden to marry Pedro as she must care for her mother. With masterfully crafted ensemble scenes and passionately ardent pas de deux, Like Water for Chocolate is a thrilling new co-production with The Royal Ballet.

Giselle
July 3-8
Considered ballet’s ultimate tale of unrequited love, heartbreaking loss and triumphant forgiveness, Giselle remains a timeless favorite. A heart-wrenching saga of betrayed love and mercy, the ballet’s exquisite grace tells the story of the titular village maiden and a handsome villager named Albrecht. What Giselle does not know is that her new paramour is actually a young nobleman in disguise who is already betrothed to another. A romantic triangle emerges that brings passion, death and everlasting love.

Swan Lake
July 10-15
Of all the great classics performed by ABT today, Swan Lake remains the quintessential ballet. Featuring the unforgettable moments of the corps de ballet moving in magical unison as the majestic swans, this romantic fable of dreamlike transformation, set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, inspires awe and wonder.

Romeo and Juliet
July 18-22
Against the sumptuous setting of Renaissance Italy, Kenneth MacMillan draws emotional depth from the immortal romance of Romeo and Juliet. Sergei Prokofiev’s unforgettable music underscores the beauty and passion of this beloved ballet and its star-crossed lovers.
