Shakespeare Downtown presents a new stage adaptation of Alexandre Dumas fils' The Lady of the Camellias for free at Castle Clinton National Monument. In this production, Dumas’ novel and parts of the libretto from the opera La Traviata are combined to tell the tragic love story between Marguerite Gautier (Billie Andersson), a courtesan suffering from consumption, and Armand Duval (Zack Ignoffo), a young bourgeois. Armand convinces her to leave her profession and come live with him in the countryside, but when his father finds out, he vows to quash their scandalous romance at all costs.
