The Met’s Department of Live Arts commissions and presents new works of performance: music, movement, sound and related hybrids. This singular body of work furthers The Met’s commitment to living artists, deepens connections between audiences and works of art, and introduces untested modes of performance. 

Live Arts offers its programs through digital platforms and has garnered millions of views worldwide via YouTube, Facebook and The Met’s website.

MetLiveArts 2023-2024 season presents works new and old that highlight the Museum’s spaces, objects, pasts and futures:

2023-24 Quartet in Residence: Catalyst Quartet
MetLiveArts has invited Catalyst Quartet to return for an unprecedented second season of residency! The ensemble will continue to deepen the ideas developed during year one, with in-gallery performances, special artist collaborations and a new Instagram series to follow the ever-popular CQ Minute.

Radical Dance For The People: Martha Graham Dance Company

Dancers from Martha Graham's revolutionary company stage some of the choreographer's most powerful 1930s solos in galleries throughout The Met, inspired by the exhibition Art for the Millions: American Culture and Politics in the 1930s.

The Great Hall Commission: Jacolby Satterwhite, A Metta Prayer

creates an immersive, multifaceted installation with video, music, movement and live performance. This ambitious project transforms the Museum's Great Hall, inviting visitors to explore works of art from the Collection in an unprecedented way.

ModernMedieval Voices: A Midwinter Feast

Singer, composer and activist Hamed Sinno (former leader of alt-rock band Mashrou' Leila) weaves together myth, memoir and monumentality in his new, site-specific operetta for the Temple of Dendur.

Through the lens of George Frideric Handel's life and works, musician and storyteller Terrance McKnight (WQXR) leads an intimate and revealing journey that weaves his own history with the story of Handel's world—and the money, power and people that moved and were moved by it.

The Clarion Choir and Orchestra: Ockeghem Marathon

Following their sold-out Josquin des Prez marathon in 2022, The Clarion Choir and Orchestra return to The Met Cloisters to celebrate the 600th birthday (give or take) of Franco-Flemish forefather Johannes Ockeghem.
