Love is in the air as American Ballet Theatre returns to the Metropolitan Opera House stage for a spectacular 2024 Summer season. A season full of unforgettable stories and popular favorites that are sure to leave you dazzled:

Onegin
June 18-22
A young country girl, Tatiana, is introduced to a worldly aristocrat by her sister’s fiancé. Onegin instantly becomes Tatiana’s heart’s desire, though, in his eyes, she remains naive and uninteresting. Thus begins the tale that leads to a tragic duel, a royal marriage and personal redemption. Based on the verse-novel Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, John Cranko’s majestic and astounding ballet allows the strength and agency of our romantic heroine to shine through.

Woolf Works
June 25-29
New York premiere! Wayne McGregor’s award-winning ballet triptych Woolf Works re-creates the emotions, themes, and fluid style of three of Virginia Woolf’s novels: Mrs. Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves. With inspiration also enmeshed with elements from her letters, essays and diaries, Woolf Works expresses the heart of an artistic life driven to discover a freer, uniquely modern realism. It brings to life Woolf’s world of “granite and rainbow”, where human beings are at once both physical body and uncontained essence. Created for The Royal Ballet in 2015, Woolf Works is an ambitious, brave and thoughtful ballet set to challenge our expectations and take us to exhilarating new places.

Swan Lake
July 1-6
Of all the great classics performed by ABT today, Swan Lake remains the quintessential ballet. Featuring the unforgettable corps de ballet moving in magical unison as the majestic, glimmering swans, this romantic fable of dreamlike transformation, set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, inspires awe and wonder.

Romeo and Juliet
July 9-13
Against the sumptuous setting of Renaissance Italy, Kenneth MacMillan weaves a “dance tapestry rich in character that is rhapsodic and sensuous” (The New York Times). Sergei Prokofiev’s unforgettable music underscores the beauty and passion of this beloved ballet and its star-crossed lovers.

Like Water for Chocolate
July 16-20
Two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon’s full-length ballet Like Water for Chocolate brings the magical realism of the famous modern Mexican novel and award-winning film of the same name to ABT. Journey into Laura Esquivel’s acclaimed and captivating family saga where the central character Tita, bound by family duty and tradition, falls in forbidden love with her neighbor Pedro. When her emotions spill over into her cooking, her only form of expression, everyone around her is influenced in startling and dramatic ways.
