Onstage we follow the multigenerational dynamics of a dysfunctional family as they pursue/embrace personal fantasies and pipe dreams in a modern world under siege of technology and virtual reality. The paterfamilias, Richard (often referred to as a Dick) has recently forgotten the password to his bitcoin wallet where millions of dollars sit just out of reach. Soon, his daily frustration turns to keen desperation, as the bitcoin continues to rise exponentially in price (as if mocking him), while he fitfully exhausts the numbers of guesses permitted to unlock his wallet, at the risk of forfeiting this fortune altogether. As Richard senses this impending loss, his behavior grows more manic and abusive towards his lotto-addicted wife (Ruth) and his son’s family, who are temporarily residing with them while their house is cleared of toxic mold. The son (Bobby) pursues his own insular fantasy by writing unsold screenplays, while his wife (Darcy) a former school teacher, is pruriently promoting herself on OnlyFans. Their young boy (Junior) is often present when his mother is taped by her father in compromising scenarios—but is also oblivious the whole time as he’s wearing his VR headset and is immersed in his own fantasy world. The various strands of fantasy violently converge when a stalker appears and the ethereal fantasy—once a footnote to reality—now subverts it.
