Do you like coffee? The characters in this play love coffee. Do you like connections with strangers in public places like coffee shops? Those fleeting little moments when you have this point of connection, intimacy maybe, with another person. And maybe it’s fleeting, maybe it never happens again, but in those moments it’s real, and it’s special. Do you like absurdist comedy? Do you like telling the truth through exaggeration? Do you like poetry? Do you like the rhythms of language and life? Then The Cappuccinos is a play for you. This play is a series of conversations between strangers and old friends outside of a coffee shop in rural, decaying America. Part small town drama, part absurdist comedy, this play is a blend of dialogue and poetry, literature and life. It examines what we choose to reveal and what we choose to keep hidden. Heartwarming, heart wrenching and painfully funny, this play paints an absurdist vision of American decline and the precious power of poetry.
